About Global Gabe

globalgabe.com is a blog dedicated to sharing tips & tricks on how to travel and live abroad in the most easy, economical, and enjoyable way.

I’m Gabriel, the author of this site and its content, but feel free to call me Gabe. I’d like to think of myself as a seasoned traveller, but I’m mostly just an addict who indulges in his drug of choice quite frequently— I hope you know I’m still talking about travel.

My main areas of travel expertise include:

    • Budget travel
    • Solo travel
    • Living abroad
    • Language learning

My mission is to curate useful travel knowledge that will help others enjoy life-changing travel experiences.

My Travel Profile

    • I’ve travelled to 45+ countries and I don’t plan on stopping anytime soon
    • I’ve lived in 5 different countries: Canada, Brazil, Austria, Italy, and Spain, the country where I currently live
    • I prefer taking longer trips so I can get a more holistic picture of the places I visit
    • I generally travel solo, mostly out of convenience, but I also really enjoy travelling with others
    • I tend to be a planner when it comes to travel, but I also like to keep some room for flexibility in my itinerary to allow me to make spontaneous changes
    • While I love the beach and nature, I usually prefer exploring busy cities and small towns while travelling since I feel that’s usually where the true culture of each destination can be found

More About Me

Just over 31 year ago, I was born and raised in the land of poutine and maple syrup, Canada, in the city of Edmonton. I studied marketing and international business at the University of Alberta, and now I work remotely in e-commerce / content marketing in the travel industry from my home base in Madrid, Spain.

My career has given me the flexibility to work remotely as a digital nomad, giving me more opportunities to travel the world. As an avid language learner, I diligently try to hone my language skills on a daily basis. In addition to English as my native language, I can speak Spanish, Portuguese, and Italian. As of 2023, I’m in the process of learning German too.
